Designing trainings for peacebuilding

Developing practical competencies for culturally adapted learning processes

December 5th to 9th, 2016 in Berlin, Germany

Trainings and seminars in peacebuilding, conflict transformation and conflict management offered by international and national experts are a key component of capacity development for civil society actors in crisis regions. International experts often support national partner organisations in their educational projects. Or, they conceptualise, plan, and organise their own educational projects and implement them themselves. This requires education managers to have a high degree of analytical and didactical expertise, as well as a broad repertoire of learning methods and well-founded pedagogical capabilities. Learning processes become more sustainable when training concepts consider the cultural circumstances, are designed to be sensitive to peace and conflict, and fit the target group. Participative and process-orientated didactics are a suitable basis for designing peace-oriented learning processes.

Trainer: Cornelia Brinkmann

Report of a former participant

“Knowledge was transferred in an appealing mix of brief inputs and individual and group work with the presentation of findings to the whole group. A particular highlight were the practical workshops which allowed us time to develop our own concepts during the five days and thus enabled us to put what we learned into practice immediately in the planning of our own projects and concepts. We were able to bring in our own experiences at any point and this broadened our respective horizons. We all enjoyed animated exchange in a comfortable atmosphere and all those involved made sure that the participants left with tangible lessons learned for our daily working lives.” Jan-Hinrich Wagner
